Review of Suspiria (1977) by Kellen V — 27 Jul 2010
Whether it be the haunting score or the beautiful colors you know that Dario Argento's Suspiria is unlike any other horror film you've seen. Jessica Harper plays an American ballet student attending a famous dance academy in the black forest of Germany only to later find out that the school is run by witches.
The film's strength lies on the great score which was composed by the band "Goblin", Dario knew exactly when to implement the music to add a sense of despair/suspense. The film was shot in technicolor and whether it be the light green, purple, pink, or blood red that flashes on the screen it is truly beautiful.
Most of the time in horror films you find that you don't want to watch a death/kill shot but in Suspiria I really didn't mind because the colors were so beautiful. I know some people might disagree with me but I belive that Suspiria is Dario's masterpiece.
