Review of Suspiria (1977) by Ruben A — 06 Jan 2012
Classic in every way shape or form. one of the most frightening films ever made, and boasts an amazing score by the great Goblin.
Originally Argento wanted 12 year olds, but the idea of children being harmed in such a manner, this would for sure be banned. but it was banned by the dpp regardless in their section three, sister to the video nasties, which was section 2.
At any rate, one if the most noted things is how visually stunning Suspiria truly is. Argento knows what hes doing. the idea was to film a complete nightmare. actually the ending was based on Daria Nicolodi, she had a nightmare involving an invisible woman and an exploding panther, in the film it was a little statue.
Argento still utilizes symbolism in this film, such as standing up to an evil authority, losing your independence. Argento had the knobs unusually high on doors to make the actors looks smaller. more childlike. though the casting was changed, the script stayed the same. leading to childlike interactions in certain scenes.
A frightening masterpiece! only one line made me NEED to see this, a woman has her heart stabbed...priceless.
