Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Enrique R — 05 Apr 2010

Facts: I like zombie films and George A. Romero.

However, while in the 70-80 the zombie that just moves around strolling , slowly worked, mainly because generally people were more naive or innocent, nowadays, the idea of the whole world falling into the jaws of strolling zombies is somehow...silly. All of them would be shot dead before it could become a zombie pandemic.

That's not to say that the George A. Romero zombies aren't worth of watching, at the end of the day, his first three outings on zombies are the Genesis of every zombie film out there but the concept isn't working anymore and that's why other films [28 days later,Dawn of the Dead remake, Resident Evil] are more fun to watch given that you could really be in danger with those monsters running around, but this Survival of the Dead is definitely an old time low for Mr Romero and his zombies. The not-so-clever idea of the people trying to teach the zombies to eat something else other than humans is so rubbish it defeats the whole basic zombie concept. While in Land of the Dead [the best so far after the initial trilogy] there were hints at some zombies getting smarter, in this one there isnt anything!!! and the whole point is...why would you want your dearest one to stay with you after they've been bitten, mauled, killed,etc with visible injuries and without the power of words or anything other than "grrrr" "arrrrgh"? Maybe just to show how selfish human beings are? Dunno. But this film is terrible. Even the outdated effects are just so funny.

Maybe the next film should pick up where Land of the Dead finish with the same cast and everything and forget about silly, mindless detours into "what's going on in other parts of America".
