Review of Surveillance (2008) by Zachary S — 22 Mar 2011
The film opens with a couple being savagely beaten to death by two masked killers. Two Feds, Anderson and Hallaway are sent to investigate and question it's witnesses. The local statey's aren't too thrilled with the Feds coming in. In fact some of them are very aggravated and suspicious about these two Federal Agents. (So am I.).
Once the Surveillance is set up in three separate rooms with each witness in those rooms: the little girl, a woman with a drug problem and one of the officer's is when the story begins. Hallaway sits in front of three monitors to survey the testimony of each.
Officer Bennett begins with him and his partner. They're two corrupt cops who, out of boredom, shoot bottles, blow out other people's tires as they drive by and then threaten them. In a small town where there is nothing to do these two can't help it.
The woman with a cocaine problem alters the truth of her story. Her and her boyfriend drive around snorting coke, being obnoxious. They're a perfect example of Sardonic Humor.
The little girl is traveling with her family for whom aren't around when she's being interviewed. She witnessed a van behind a blue car and something sinister. Smashed up windows and blood. This is something she tells the two corrupt officers are they shoot out the families tires.
This is how the three sections of the story converge. Also it's one of the most hilarious scenes when one of the cops threatens the family while Officer Bennett threatens the cocaine addict and her boyfriend. It's funny because of how it's portrayed.
Everything comes to a disturbing turn of events when the white van collides with the parked families car and the drug addicts car leading to another twist which in a strange way I could see coming due to the odd behavior of two characters.
It's a surreal mystery that keeps you guessing up to it's creepy ending.
