Review of Superman II (1980) by David M — 14 Oct 2013
"Kneel before Zod!".
Direct sequel to 1978s 'Superman', with the plot of that movie recapped during the (rather lengthy) opening credits.
Filmed back-to-back with the original (with the three super-villains being consigned to the Phantom Zone in the opening of the first movie), it's no secret that this had a rather tumultuous shooting history, with original director Richard Donner fired after filming about 70% of the script, to be replaced by Richard Lester. Despite that, however, this has become what has to be the benchmark for any superhero sequel, with only really Spiderman 2 giving it a run for its money in the super-hero sequel stakes!
