Review of Superman II (1980) by Shane D — 10 Mar 2015
I thought this was a tad better than the first one. Another well made Superman film attempt by Richard Donner. Superman II is a great sequel with the same cast, but this time, Gen. Zod, Ursa and Non are up to avenge themselves, as they were exiled from Krypton and arrives on Earth with the intention of destroying the planet.
I still love the screenplay on this, especially the humor that it gives, it is still "cartoon-ish" in terms of dialogue. Gene Jackman as Lex Luthor is still clever and funny as ever. I thought he was the best Luthor to me.
The battle in the city between Superman vs. the three villains, I thought that was great. With great special effects from a 1981 superhero film, it is still pretty legit. Explosions, bricks falling from the ground, cars and trash cans flying everywhere I thought that is so well made since that time.
The Richard Donner's cut kills the ending, kinda disappointing though. I love the performances, still great as the first Superman and definitely one of the best. 4/5.
