Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Adam K — 28 Apr 2009
I was not expecting too much out of this for four reasons. A, it's animated, and though I like the Superman cartoons, but they are usually directed towards kids; 2, this came out around the time of Superman returns, and it seems like every comic book movie these days has some animated straight to dvd release coinciding that really isn't worth crap; and D, because I think that anyone dying and coming back to life is kind of a cheap attempt at a plot twist.
Upon watching, however, I found that 1, its not directed towards kids, and therefore nothing is held back; B, it was not a haphazard attempt to capitalize on Superman Returns' popularity but in reality a legitimate animated movie; and 4, the dying and coming back to life thing was not done cheaply.
Actually, I was quite entertained by this movie. In the Superman spectrum, it ranks lower than Superman Returns and Superman I, but way higher than Superman II and all subsequent crappy sequels.
