Review of Super Fly (1972) by Chris H — 28 Mar 2012
The ladies do what I want.
Priest is a cocaine dealer that has decided he'd rather retire from the business with a fat sum of money than remain in his line of work and end up dead or in jail. He decides to sell one last big score and retire to an island with one of his hos; unfortunately, his suppliers will not let him go quietly into the night.
"I'm looking for someone to carry his weight.".
Gordon Parks Jr., director of Three the Hard Way, Thomasine & Bushrod, and Aaron Loves Angela, delivers Super Fly. The storyline for this picture is a fairly standard for the pimp genre, if there is such a thing. The depiction of the lifestyle and obstacles were entertaining and the cast delivers solid performances. The cast includes Ron O'Neal, Carl Lee, Sheila Frazier, and Julius Harris.
"Now you've seen the dice let me see the money.".
Super Fly is a movie I have been dying to see since viewing the marvelous Dolamite. I thought this would be as good as Dolamite but it was not quite as entertaining. I also did not think it was as good as Coffee or Foxy Brown. This is still an entertaining movie that is worth a viewing just not upper echelon for the genre.
"I can't get the price or the quality any place else.".
Grade: C+.
