Review of Sunrise (1985) by Josh H — 02 Dec 2007
I went to see this with my wife because it was recommended by critics that I respect. I thought I might like it, but I kind of expected to be disappointed relative to the high expectations. I hadn't seen a silent film for years, a I wasn't sure I could really appreciate one.
My wife didn't expect to like it, but she went along. Now it is one of our favorite movies. Somehow it manages to be convincing, romantic, touching, and sometimes (intentionally) funny. I can't explain why: the plot sounds rather lame to describe, and well.
.. there are no good lines ;-), and the acting has that old-fashioned, "slient film" quality to it. But somehow it works.
