Review of Sunrise (1985) by Grant S — 12 Oct 2016
A farmer is smitten by a woman from the city who convinces him to sell his farm and move to the city with her. The problem is that he's married to Janet Gaynor. She convinces him to murder his wife and make it look like an accident.
He goes along with the plan, but can't follow through with it. His wife flees in fear, and he follows her to the city where they reconcile and enjoy an idyllic day together in the big city. Murnau was one of the true greats of silent cinema and this is probably his best film.
An endlessly visually inventive masterpiece.
