Review of Summertime (1955) by Thomas P — 22 May 2009
A really beautiful film. Not just visally (not surprising in the hands of David Lean) but beautifully performed. Hepburn shows us why so many people were truly in love with her, me amongst them. She can pull off fragility and vulnerability as well as she could as a delicious zany, crazy comedienne in her early career and cunning manipulator in her later roles.
She is genuinely heartbreaking here. Lovely film!
