Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Cesar D — 09 Jun 2017
'Suicide Squad' has moments of fun character interactions, however, as a huge fan of John Ostrander's comic series, it's ultimately disappointing. Amanda Waller proposes a task force of elite criminals to go on missions for the government that deal with superhuman threats.
This would've been more effective if the threat they dealt with wasn't from someone Waller intended to be on the team in the first place. Waller comes across as an incompetent idiot and it's a wonder why any Government officials thought it'd be a good idea for her to lead super-criminals.
The editing is a mess and at times it felt as if I was watching a series of music videos cut together. And despite what David Ayer thinks, more Jared Leto Joker wouldn't have made it better. As for what I liked, some characters were entertaining and many of the scenes involving the Squad hanging out together were highlights.
Especially a fun scene with the whole team at a bar. Harley Quinn and captain Boomerang were the standouts. Overall, 'Suicide Squad' is entertaining enough but should have been so much better.
