Review of Sugar (2010) by Codie E — 28 Oct 2008
An interesting follow up to Half Nelson for filmmaking couple Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. There is a lovely balance between intelligence and passion for a sport that is so often lacking (Friday Night Lights, being the only film in recent memory to match this).
The film tries to tackle a bit too much (drugs, injury, etc,) and could have done with a little trim but this remained from start to finish a really engaging and charming film.
