Review of Striking Distance (1993) by Todd H — 10 Feb 2008
A frustrating thriller, with some really well acted scenes involving family, loyalty, and honor between Bruce Willis, Dennis Farina, and the rest of the cast. The daily work routine of the river rat cops on Pittsburgh's Three Rivers is also interesting.
Unfortunately, most of the rest of the film is formulaic at best. Early stalking scenes are almost straight out of a "Friday the 13th" entry. The action set pieces are pretty much uninspired, and the dialogue often leaves much to be desired.
Fortunately, the acting (noteably Willis and Robert Pastorelli) manages to force the film into mediocrity.
