Review of Striking Distance (1993) by Andy G — 28 Jun 2011
Finally watch it again after many years ago. Back then think the story is boring, not too many action and slow. Now I feel it isn't that bad. The lack of action is because it is a thriller. A kidnapper kills a woman and dump the body down the river.
Bruce Willis and family all are cops. He is frown upon by the others because he is testifying against his partner and cousin Robert Pastorelli for using violence. Bruce and his dad cop John Mahoney join the pursue of the culprit and both cars crash down.
Bruce injured his leg and John is shot dead. The culprit escape. Going to the trial, Dennis Farina his uncle told him they caught the guy. Bruce don't believe it. He know it is done by a cop. Tom Sizemore is Robert brother.
Robert couldn't take the trial and jump down the river. 2 years later, Bruce has attitude and is now a river cop. Tom isn't a cop anymore. He visit him and say he don't blame Robert's death on him anymore.
Sarah Jessica Parker is Bruce new partner. Whie patrolling, they saw a boat in hostage crisis. Bruce go onboard alone and kill almost every thugs. Sarah save his life from the last thug. A woman is kidnap and Bruce receive the call.
He steal the files and want to continue on the case again. He go to find one of the witness involve back then but sarah stops him. Next moment, the body of the woman is found dump in the river. Sarah dig deeper on her own.
Bruce and Sarah attend a cop party. Most people don't like him. Especially Brion James. They had a fight and Bruce left. Went back home Sarah pour away his alcohol and ask him to snap out of it. They make out.
During patrol, they saw a guy dump a carpet down river. Chase the car and Bruce blow up the car with flare. It isn't a body but just bricks. So far all the woman that is dead are known by Bruce. Dennis try to get Bruce in.
Turns out Sarah is actually send to close spy on Bruce from Internal Affairs. She give him a good review in court which is actually contradict with her actual tesimonial. Sarah is attack at her home. Bruce trail the map and find out it is link to the playhouse the cousins use to play.
Tom was there and then Bruce was knock out. The trio were bound. The culprit is Robert who didn't die. Dennis came and try to get him stop. Truth is back then Dennis caught up and let Robert go. John want to shoot but Dennis tussle with him and shot him accidentally.
Robert wear bulletproof vest and shot back Dennis. The police come and Bruce and Robert fight it out. He tase him and Robert drown. Brion offer apology to Bruce. He and Sarah are together.
