Review of Street Trash (1987) by Lee ? — 29 May 2011
A movie about melting hobos. Oh my goodness gracious where has this film been all my life?!?! Street Trash is a highly entertaining film, and not just because homeless drunks melt in various colors. It occasionally gets bogged down by little sub-plots, like one hobo getting a rich guys girlfriend killed on accident and the rich guy sends a hit man after him.
Then there's the butthole manager of a junkyard who does some pretty nasty stuff. Finally, there's Bronson, a former Vietnam vet and his "playmate". I would have liked to see more meltdowns than what we're given, but there's JUST enough to keep me interested.
There are some pretty funny stuff, like the game of keep-away, the opening chase, and the rich guy's interactions with one of his workers that I found particularly hilarious. Street Trash is a really nasty film and it's not for the faint of heart.
If you enjoyed Peter Jackson's early and better films, like Bad Taste or Dead Alive, you'll really enjoy this.
