Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Lee K — 19 Dec 2010
Im not fond of Peckinpah's work however if I was going to say what was had heard about but had never seen. In this film Dustin Hoffman portrays David Sumner a mathematician who moves to the UK with his wife Amy (Susan George) end up meeting with a past beau of hers and his band of bad news freinds.
He hires some of them to finish construction on their new home all the whilst googling at Amy every chance they get. This activity draws a blind eye on David as he often accuses his wife who complains about the staring as it being all in her head.
Unfortunatly it is not as we see later on in the film. After driving home one night in the fog they accidentally run down the town pervert who just happened to be responsible for murdering the gang's oldest members daughter.
David amidst Amy's refusal brings the offender to his home in a bid to call the police and get ,medical attention to him, only its not medical attention he recieves..The gang shows up and they will do anything to get in the house and retrieve the offender, only one thing though.
..this is David's house and he is ready to defend it on all costs! A good little thriller that was number 3 on my list of classics to see. Meh! Good little time waster, it's worth a look!
