Review of Strangers on a Train (1951) by Late R — 28 Apr 2018
Hitchcock turns a story that's a little far-fetched into a hugely suspenseful and visual affair with a terrifying character at its centre who goes from seemingly innocuous to psychopathic mastermind in a short period of time, making the life of the stranger he meets on a train a living nightmare.
It's a torturous journey for the protagonist, one that will have you on edge and, most of all, vicariously living the feeling of entrapment. It would have been nice to see a little bit more moral ambiguity and temptation, but for the most part, it's great stuff.
You probably didn't need another excuse not to talk to strangers on a train, but if you were looking for one, here it is.
