Review of Strange Days (1995) by John A — 19 Jul 2011
The best thing this has going for it is its darkly futuristic setting. Otherwise, the film seems at odds with itself--decrying the debauchery of this future world through the Bassett character and the overall story arc while constantly using the camera to dwell on the debauchery.
This, along with the kinetic editing and pounding metal/rap soundtrack successfully invites viewers into this world, but removes the film's ability to comment on that world in a meaningful way.
