Review of Stormbreaker (2006) by Huw P — 21 Nov 2008
A fun affair although not exaclty that believeable a story. In truth, the impossibilitives of it's plot mirror that of a James Bond film. The reason it is taken in a more negative light here is that it isn't a James Bond film. The name and reputation of that great franchise is protecting this film from it's downfalls. A young kid suddenly thrust into the word of espionage is nothing new and the reason it worked in the book is that Anthony Horowitz is an extremely skilled writer.
None the less, the film was certainly watchable and I enjoyed the silliness of the plot, which will make children happy and adults won't have to strain their brains to follow the plot. Some good humour and a talented young lead give this film a leg to stand on. Pity they had to managle the book's plot so much more then they do in a regular harry potter. Still, I can see why they did it, since a junior bond is not complete without a maiden to rescue.
