Review of Stick It (2006) by Kathleen P — 02 Dec 2008
I thought it would be fun. It was... kinda crappy. It's about this girl who is a tomboy delinquent, and as punishment instead of going to juvenile hall, she has to go to a gymnastics academy. She used to be a world champion gymnast until she walked out of Worlds, and so everyone hated her, and you find out what happened at that competition and why she hates gymnastics.
But the other characters were annoying, and a few of the things hit way close to home about the annoying points in life. Such as: being in an all-girl environment and not knowing any boys or having a life while in high school, being on a team where it's an individual sport so everyone is pretty greedy and self-serving plus all this drama crap, fighting hard in competitions with judges and coaches that you don't love all that much and who don't really love you back.
And some of the narration was kind of weird, like the part where she says elite gymnasts are so much better than Navy seals or the Marines.
