Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Felipe B — 20 Dec 2007
It's hard to take a stance on these kinds of movies. A dying writer trying to finish his last novel, while a young graduate student wants to write her disertation on his work. While every character was name dropping literary titans and refering to pieces of work way beyond my comprehension level, I tried to keep up with the script, but couldnt find the brain capacity to do it.
I don't find myself an idiot. I saw the parallels to Langellas books and the on screen drama between his daughter and her boyfriend, but I couldnt help but ask "whats the point?" - live your life the way you want and fuck the rest? It's risky business, people need to be cautious sometimes. It's a biased film. Langella deservers his acting praise, but other than that, another forgettable film.
