Review of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) by Jesse O — 06 Sep 2008
I honestly hold the first Starship Troopers as a modern classic - knowingly B-grade, but with grade A CGI which made the action enjoyable and believable as a way of offsetting the intentionally cheesy dialogue, acting and plot. In the case of this straight-to-DVD sequel, the CGI is some of the worst I have seen, and while the story is enjoyably laughable, the faith subplot was awkward and forced. I couldn't tell whether the filmmakers were Christians trying to preach through this franchise, or mocking people with faith. Either way, this wasn't a good start.
And if you're going to shameless rip off the coolest thing about Aliens - Ripley's forklift fighting machine - do what the Matrix Revolutions did and at least use it for more than one disappointing scene.
