Review of Starship Troopers (1997) by Stephen H — 22 Jul 2011
Effective and wonderfully subversive special-effects extravaganza, that manages to work both as a splattery sci-action action epic and satire of media, fascism and warmongering.
The effects still hold up and the acting and gloriously melodramatic - the crew was in on the joke, but most of the young cast doesn't appear to be and plays everything to the hilt. (come on, who would honestly let Casper van Dien and Denise Richards headline a serious movie?).
