Review of Starship Troopers (1997) by Timothy N — 23 Sep 2014
Directed in the fashion of World War II propaganda, this film feels like an epic Sci-Fi upon your first viewing. Yet, the more you get aquatinted with it, the more this movie starts to feel like your first reading of '1984'.
Those who doubt this film's depth were following the vanilla vehicle Johnny Rico a little too closely. The details that trail into the background are the keys to the themes; not the blonde, square jawed doof.
To get the most out of this movie simply think, "what would Rico pay attention too?", and then absorb every detail other than that. As war satire goes, this one was so good it was chastised for being a military commercial by some of the more Rico-esque reviewers.
