Review of Starman (1984) by Shane D — 28 Aug 2010
With a recent preview of Tron Legacy invoking the image of a young Jeff Bridges, I felt it pertinent that I check out this other early Bridges effort. Surprised to learn that Ms Indiana Jones was also in this (Karen Allen).
There were plenty of moments in this that felt like we were watching a movie we'd seen plenty of times before, from E.T to Encino Man. Then, there are the moments where Bridges and Allen transcend.
These moments are what give Starman its appeal, with particular attention to the scenes after their characters discuss the pregnancy of Allen's character. There is some poignancy in the message the film carries also.
These elements combine to make this a little more than your average spaceman cometh offering.
