Review of Starman (1984) by Matthew C — 17 Apr 2011
I only wanted to re-watch this movie because of Jeff Bridges. He's had some great movies lately and I wanted to check out some of his earlier stuff. Anyway, this is a romantic science fiction story, two movie genres that generally donâ(TM)t mix well together.
Imagine a human ET falling in love with an Earth woman who has a case of Stockholmâ(TM)s syndrome. Thatâ(TM)s the movie in a nutshell; very simple plot. However, add the fact that the human ET looks like the womanâ(TM)s dead husband and you have a sci-fi romance.
Itâ(TM)s an entertaining film. The acting is good and the action is decent, but the movie has its holes. Itâ(TM)s worth checking out sometime, but itâ(TM)s not a life changing event.
