Review of Stardust (2010) by Josh K — 30 Jun 2013
This film is a funny and perfect take on the fantasy genre, while it is also highly different from Matthew Vaughn's other directorial work, his directorial debut Layer Cake. The film focuses on a young man who attempts to find a floating star so he can marry the woman of his dreams, while an evil witch is also attempting to capture the star.
The film is wonderfully put together, with great performances from Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Strong, while Robert De Niro is the real standout in several scenes as a secretly gay pirate captain.
The film moves along at a terrific pace, while making several great twists and turns, at the same time always keeping its viewer on their feet. The film works perfectly as a live action fairy tale, while it also brings several great new takes to the genre.
