Review of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) by Andrew E — 11 May 2009
In my humble opinion, and probably only my opinion, this is TREK at its best! Without a doubt this is the best Star Trek movie! I'm not joking. I love this movie. I don't give two fucks that the cast is old and looking it, they are amazing here.
William Shatner hits the correct tone between smug comedy and revenge fueled angst for the loss of his son David in Star Trek 3.
Leonard Nimoy is wonderful as usual. He just lights up the screen, witch is a difficult task for a man playing an alien with subdued emotions. DeForest Kelley is, as usual, a law until himself delivering lines with so much intensity it would not surprise me if his head exploded. I miss the old crew and never really felt that the Next Generation crew ever really reached the standards delivered by the Original Series. This is the last true Star Trek movie for me and everything else that followed was fun but did not feel the same. They were like a family and I think the new movie brings that Ideal back and I hope the movies to come will continue to feel this way but for now Star Trek 6 is my Ideal Star Trek night in. So everyone jump out of there chair, put one foot up on the coffee table, make a fist and shout 'FIRE'!
