Being long, boring, and filled with useless special effects are aside the point! Forget that this film is eerily reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey and pay more attention to the crew's new uniforms! This is simply a timeless story, and who can deny that a movie with the father from seventh heaven (Stephen Collins) as the main character is a bad choice for a sci-fi classic? I like it.
