Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Angie M — 30 Dec 2012
I recently watched the Special Longer Version on VHS of the first Star Trek film, and I must say that I was blown away by this thoroughly underrated film. I didn't really know what to expect when going into this film, with my only knowledge being that most people hated it because it was boring, and it was also regarded as being one of the worst Star Trek films.
Though I haven't seen all the Star Trek films, I must confess that this film is my favorite of the series so far. Don't get me wrong, I also absolutely love the second film, but for some reason this film just held a strange power over me through its interesting philosophical storyline, stunning visuals and effects, a superb music score by Jerry Goldsmith, and great acting all around.
I honestly have no idea why people hate this film so much, I found it to be a beautiful, mesmerizing sci-fi epic, and easily one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. This is a film any fan of sci-fi films should give at least one chance before writing it off, because it is much better than you've heard.
I think it's superb and beautiful.
