Review of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) by Adaeze N — 11 Jan 2010
This is a bit like a sequel to The Wrath of Khan as it continues the story of the Genesis project (which is now complete, as it is a planet) and we find out that Spock is has been ressurected from the planets ability to bring life from death (his torpedo coffin was fired onto the planet).
Kirk has to go back to get him, but faces the problem that the Enterprise has been decomissioned, so what does he do? Well its James T.Kirk, so he steals the Enterprise of course, with the help of his friends.
These make for some really excellent scenes, backed up by a superb soundtrack. Then they come accross the Klingons while orbiting Genesis, the 2 ships battle before the Enterprise is too damaged to carry on, so the Klingons make some demands, which results in the death of Kirks son David (who was studying the planet with Saavik and they found a young Spock, before being captured by the Klingons).
Staring defeat in the face Kirk then uses his brilliant mind to beam down to the planet (to rescue Spock and Saavik) and kill the majority of the Klingons, but its at the expense of his beloved ship. Its an emotional scene, we see the Enterprise self destruct and burn up in the planet's atmosphere.
After a fist fight with Klingon commander Kruge, Kirk manages to rescue Spock just before the planet explodes, and escape in the Klingon Bird of Prey. This is a good movie, which has some moving scenes, but its not a masterpiece like The Wrath of Khan was.
