Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Cath O — 10 Dec 2016

I'm definitely a Trekkie but TOS, Kirk, Spock etc are not my favourites - too bromance-y and white male dominated. However, this 3rd instalment of the new iteration works well as there is plenty of good character stuff and the ladies get a a bit to do - Uhuru is no damsel in distress and new character Jayler is a fun action girl addition.

Sadly the fab Idriss Elba is wasted hidden under Babylon5 style prosthetics for all but the last few minutes. Simon Pegg co-wrote the script so there is a decent level of wit and the action is brisk and engaging.

Good fun.
