Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Bill B — 28 Dec 2016
After an interesting reboot and a shaky sequel Star Trek Beyond finally takes the crew of the USS Enterprise into strange new worlds whilst (this time) remembering that the greatest strength this 50 year old Franchise has is its crew.
Here everyone gets their moment. particularly Karl Urbans excellently portrayed Dr McCoy. The films script is very good, giving it a natural, faithful feel without the obvious on the nose references. The film takes the franchises premise of disparate people working together for the greater good and challenging it.
the villain is a bit one dimensional and some plot devices are very nearly laughably ridiculous but somehow it all works. An imperfect but fitting celebration of a ship and crew boldly going for 50 years.
