Review of Standard Operating Procedure (2008) by Alex B — 08 Jan 2009
Another investigation of America's culture of death courtesy of Errol Morris, this the story of white trash lumpenproletarians serving America's fascist empire--talk about the banality of evil.
But the more important, underexamined story has to do with prisoners hidden from the Red Cross and tortured to death (or, curiously banished to the DVD extras: Abu Ghraib "built by the Germans using American blueprints of American prisons in the 1960s.
..just like the prisons that I ran in Texas"; shooting to death rock-throwing "common criminal" prisoners held in tents; recording for fun a prisoner continuously beating his head against a wall; General Janis Karpinski talking about secretly changing Saddam's eyeglasses prescription and putting poison in his fruit (which makes me think that maybe Milosevic really was poisoned to death).
).
