Review of Stand by Me (1986) by James O — 03 Jul 2011
Stand By Me is an adaptation of Stephen King's short story The Body (which can be found in his anthology, Different Seasons). I must say it is definitely one of my favorite of all his films that have been turned into film.
The acting is great, with such notables as Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland. It captures that coming-of-age feeling perfectly as each of these kids see their first dead body. The dead body can be seen as a metaphor for life as it is: Surprising and shocking when first exposed to it.
Or you can just see it as a heart-warming tale of four kids going off to see a dead body. Either way, Stand By Me is a one of a kind movie that stands with The Shawshank Redemption as a film that makes you feel that life is something valuable, and you must utilize it to its fullest extent.
