Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Shaughn S — 25 Apr 2014

In all retrospect I will not give my review of this movie, because there is nothing I could say that hasn't been said. It is a movie that everyone should see! So instead I'm going to give my experience with it instead.

It was years ago, I was about 12 or 13 and it was Christmas Day. I was opening up one of my many bag of gifts and out pooped the DVD. I stared at it and was confused. I never put it on my list and I wondered if it was for someone else and was put in my bag by mistake. My mother exclaimed "I thought you might enjoy this movie, it's really good!". I put it down and moved onto my other gifts, the ones that I had asked for instead.

Weeks went by before I watched the movie. It just did not seem all that interesting to me. Plus at the time I thought the movie was old. Who would want to watch an old movie? Not me of course. When I finally did see Stand by Me, it was like the movie gods came down and touched me. (Yes as corny as it sounds) The reason I say this is because the movie was and still is that good. I fell in love with it right away. Don't quote me on this but I swear I watched every night for the rest of that week.

I have seen this movie more times than I can count and literally could quote it to you if asked(sad I know) It wasn't the story that drew me in, it was the characters. I feel like I can relate to almost every single one of them. We've all been in their shoes at least once in our lives, because let's face it. No one has a perfect life.

Is Stand By Me perfect? No, it's not. I don't think there really is a perfect movie, but damn this one comes close. With the way it makes you laugh, cry, and cringe, Stand by Me gives you the full range of emotions. If you have not seen this movie, you really are missing out on one of the greatest movies in cinema history. Of course I will always highly recommend it to anyone!!!
