Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Brady L — 19 Aug 2018
When it comes to classics that need to be experienced by all, Stand By Me remains in a league of it's own. Based on the novella by Stephen King entitled "The Body", this movie follows 4 young boys as they embark on a journey, not just for the dead body of a local boy who had gone missing the previous week but also for self discovery as each boy has a true moment of vulnerability and growth.
We also see their tormentors, parents and older bullies, as they are portrayed in the eyes of the boys and how they help shape how this quartet will grow up and also tackle adversity in life going forward.
As they always say, the journey is more important then the destination. Watching these boys grow as human beings during their 2 day walk is simply amazing and needs to be witnessed by every young man going through puberty.
The individual scenes, narrated perfectly by the main character Gordy's adult self, showcase each boy as a unique entity and allow for us the audience to truly become invested in their singular stories and to truly feel for these kids.
I cannot express thoroughly enough how much I enjoy and love this film. I truly believe that everyone needs to watch this movie as they go through their early teenage years.
