Review of Stake Land (2010) by Trent R — 02 Jun 2011
Seemed incredibly over-hyped to me, and fairly boring after a mildly in media res beginning. I'd say having a couple of decent post-apocalyptic films in theaters has spoiled me for low budget visions, except that I'd still watch any `80s-`90s Italian take off over this.
This is as redundant as the more marketable recent takes on zombie and vampire flicks, just taken more from the edgier and less teen angst-ridden sources. Which is not to say that there are many risks taken, as besides the frequent and competently executed gore we get a dull coming-of-age plot and some half-ass satire of fundamentalism.
