Review of Stake Land (2010) by Luca Maria M — 20 Oct 2017
A very well crafted low budget horror movie, but with too many plot holes, unexplained things and unbeliavable moments. I really wanted to like the movie, but there's too much of everything with too little time to assimilate things and basically with no explaination (for example: ****SPOILER ALERT***** one for all: how did Mister escape the vampires, when the fanatics leave him with them? we see him killing a couple of them.
..but then what happened? he killed him with his bare hands? **** END OF SPOILERS **** ) I read it was thought initially as a (web) series and I think it would have been a fantastic series (even if really too similar to The Walking Dead) , but as a movie it seems an entire series packed together in one single episode.
Photography is very good (some shots are excellent), the score is great, I liked the horror bits of the movie and there's creativity (even if within the cliches of the genre) and talent, but I think that with a different story (less things all together, more time to get to them, more time to assimilate events) it would have turned in a little gem.
