Review of Stake Land (2010) by Sean D — 10 Oct 2015
It's good. Not awesome. Not excellent. Just good. Critics seem to love these traveling post-apocalyptic films. I'd say this film is like a lot of other films such as 28 Days Later mixed in with a bit of the game Left 4 Dead.
The one thing is, I don't like the vampire films where the vampires act like ravenous zombies rather than actual vampires. These type of vampires are boring and annoying and have no depth. It was pretty bad, I kept thinking the vampires were zombies and kept forgetting that they wasn't the case. You really don't get character development at all in this film, and that seemed to have been to the point. Nothing wrong with that.
I wish they put as much diversity into the vampires and towns as they did with the character selection. I swear it was just white people this whole film. The plot is your typical traveling post-apocalyptic film whereas the characters are heading the promised land of Canada. I didn't quite understand the ending of the film. But the film was fairly enjoyable, I recommend it. There were 7 webisode prequels that came around when the film was released, they are worth watching. I watched them after the film, I suppose you can do either.
