Review of Stake Land (2010) by Cody M — 07 Jun 2011
Gritty, character-focused horror flick in which a young teenager accompanies a grizzled drifter on a cross-country trip after most of America (and the world) has been over by zombie-like vampires. Along the way, they pick up a nun, a pregnant girl and a former soldier, and discover that the vampires are not the only danger as they run afoul of a sinister cult.
Low budget and thankfully exposition lite, with minimal dialogue, the movie rambles along much like their road trip, punctuated by moments of bloody violence, and manages to create memorable characters (the cast is very good) and pervasive mood of dread.
