Review of St. Elmo's Fire (1985) by Paula K — 30 Dec 2010
I'm all for a good movie about post-college-graduation angst...especially because you know, um, that's kind of where I'm at right now. But alas, this is not one of those movies. Everything about this movie is so precious in such an awfully 80s way.
Every once in a while there are lines that really hit close to home, but then that sappy music comes in and I realize these people's problems are not as important as they're making them out to be.
And then I'm like, "Oh." And I come to a self-realization. So maybe all it takes is a really bad 80's melodrama to learn how to stop taking yourself so seriously. Thank you, St. Elmo's Fire!
