- the Vatican has a serious problem.

That, ofcourse, is the largest of under-statements; however, it is all too true in scope and candor.

This film focuses on a systemic breach of trust between an institution and its faithful over a period of time spanning decades. That this story happened in Boston is a perfect location for the depth of just how heart rendering the big reveal turned out to be.

This is the best ensemble cast I have seen in years. Everyone in this film brings their A game. Some bring a little too much, but hey - everybody knew that this film had Oscar written all over it. Michael Keaton is on a winning streak right now and I am proud of where Batman is at this point in his career. Mark Ruffalo definitely dives into a role that will be a very defining one for his career.

...and then there is the fact that everyone else in this movie give us their all while not really trying to outdo one another. But the story of how these journalists got to the bottom of things is the real star. That's the point: hard core, true-to-life, investigative journalism. They weren't worried about clicks on a website. They weren't worried about being sensational to get views on a TV show. They focused on getting the real, unadulterated truth. That's the biggest triumph of Spotlight.

...that's why it won...
