Review of Spotlight (2015) by Matt A — 06 Mar 2016
This is one of those rare films that given the subject matter, you don't want to see, but have to see it just because of how important and shocking it is. I cant fault this film in anything. The ensemble cast is all on top form.
It was uncomfortable to watch in a few of the scenes recounting the abuse. Its a slow burner of a story, much like Erin Brockovich, but without any of the focus moving onto the investigators personal lives, it all boils down to uncovering the truth and its sickening to know that there are people who know about this and cover it up.
Its very gripping. It deserved to win Best Film at this years Oscars. Just before the end credits there is a reveal of just how many cases have been uncovered on a global scale, it really makes you sick just to know how common this is.
