Review of Spotlight (2015) by Binxbolling — 23 Nov 2015
This movie is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. It reminded me very much of "All the President's Men" with its steady, sometimes slow, yet inexorable march toward the truth: the Catholic Church's cover-up of sexual abuse of children by pedophile priests.
An editorial shake-up at the Boston Globe leads to the assignment of a team of ace reporters to investigate allegations that a few priests in the area may have abused children. The scope of the investigation widens as the reporters gather more information implicating dozens of priests and the Catholic Church in what turns out to be a massive cover-up.
This movie deserves an Oscar nomination at the very least. I thought that Mark Ruffalo, in particular, did an excellent job. In fact, the whole cast was outstanding. There are several heroes in this movie--only they wield notepads, cellphones and laptops, rather than knifes, guns or bombs--or arrows.
I highly recommend this film.
