The obvious parallel is All the President's Men, and both films do a great job of building momentum. Once it gets going, it's like a snowball rolling downhill. You really need to pay attention to each scene to figure out who has uncovered what about whom.
This isn't quite as gripping as ATPM, but it's very well made. Stanley Tucci stands out for me among the supporting cast. He's such a good actor. It tells an important story, and one that as a Catholic I am certainly disturbed by.
It's not the most emotionally moving film, but it's well made and deserved its Best Picture Oscar.
