Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Ronald M — 21 Sep 2013
There's always two kinds of girls.
A high school couple in Kansas are made up of the richest boy in town and a middle class girl. They are deeply in love and believe in the potential of their relationship to lead to marriage and children; however, the young man's family would like him to wait until he graduates from college to make that decision. Meanwhile, the boy really wants to have sex but the girl wants to wait. Can the boy wait or will he destroy everything?
"A woman doesn't enjoy these things the way a man does.".
Elia Kazan, director of A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, East of Eden, Pinky, The Last Tycoon, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, delivers A Splendor in the Grass. The storyline for this picture is amazing and contains wonderful characters, a fantastic script, and magnificent acting. The cast delivers perfect performances and includes Warren Beatty, Natalie Wood, and Pat Hingle.
"Boys don't respect girls they go all the way with.".
Splendor in the Grass is a movie I DVR'd off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) because it was directed by the great Elia Kazan. I will say this is one of my favorite pictures by Kazan (definitely top 3). I was shocked at the quality of the story and characters and the acting was awesome. This is definitely a must see and worth adding to your DVD collection.
"Find strength in what lies behind.".
