Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Tino R — 22 Feb 2011
Incredible story with layer upon layer of content and thematics, making standard teenage films of today ridiculous by comparison. Inge deals with so much and infuses his characters with vibrancy and power.
The performances by Beatty and Wood are perfectly countered by the performances of Hingle and Christie. I cannot recall a film where the generational divide is shown quite so well. Kazan has a remarkable ability not only to get great performances but to hit the inner workings of a script perfectly.
Every one of his films just resonates tremendously. Great film!
