Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Raychol E — 23 Dec 2008

This is the story about two highschool lovers, deanny the simple life girl, with her share of hard times with her family with the stocks in the 1920's bud well educated, rich, a basketball and football player.

buds dad insisits he goes to collage and to forget about deanny lewis for four years of collage at yale. she wants bud to stay and marry her, but she said she'll wait forever for him! time passes and mr standofd (bud's dad) presures and persuads him to leave deanny and call on other girls to forget about her how he would would waste his time with a girl he'd have to marry right off, so bud starts going with a loose partier in deanny's l.

A. class, over time not speaking with bud and him being dead to her she feels overwelmed with lonlyness and desparately needs him back she is in l.a. class one day reading aloud and has a breakdown runs out of the room and is takin to the hospital where the state to bud and his parents and her parents that she has had a nervous break down and its best she stay away from bud stanford, then comes the school dance where she is esscorted by a highschool friend alan, wearing a red dress and permed hair she isint there to dance with alan or talk.

...she sees bud alone with a drink she goes to him greets him with a smile and says hi he just looks at her he says some dress? she exclaims you like? she tells him she wants to talk! they go outside and they both tell eachother how they want to be togather and he says everynite he has to stop him self from calling her she's all he evr thinks about she looks for his car and takes him by the hand and persuads "come on".

....she opens his car door and says I cant go on like this....he boldly says no your a nice girl. she whispers "im not nice girl" he trys to pull her out she starts to push him away saying no I want you I dont want to go bck inside I want u! he holds her tight saying have you any pride? she yells no not when it comes to me and you, she feels nervous again and runs from him her date sees her a grabs her she starts to cry and begs him to take her home he pulls off by a water fall where some life gaurds and teens are.

..she gets out of his car running from im...he realizes she dont want him so he leaves her she goes by the other cars and stares at the water fall boldly she runs to the edge and a gaurd yells hey? what are doing? get back here its dangerous!!!!!he rings the alert bell! will she jump? will she be saved? will bud and her ever come togather agian will he forget yale? and his fathers dreams for him? will it be a happy ending or serris of awful events? you'll find out when you watch splendor in the grass.
